What to do?
« on: June 22, 2016, 11:56:23 AM »
I have a ton of problems at the moment as far as the streams are concerned - and I really really want the opinion of those of you who matter most.

As it stands - I am at a standstill - the channels are not growing at all - and I have been thinking a lot about what I can do about it.

I can stream to only Twitch - but if I do that - I have to drop my quality from 1080p60 to 720p60 at around a 3500 bitrate so more people can watch. Which for most of you - won't be noticeable - but it sucks for those that can.

The other option is to become more of a one trick pony - meaning playing one game - every single night - to build a community around that game until I can get quality options on Twitch or even get partnered. The option with this is to do two streams every night maybe? An early stream and a late stream. One being my main game (Battlefield) and the other being what I always do, Culling, Rocket League, etc.

Or I can do both of those, which is honestly the option I am considering. I currently stream every single day - and have done so for over 200 days - yet that doesn't make the channel successful - or help it progress at all.

YouTube streaming is already a dead platform - so my focus can't revolve around that anymore - and it's not the platform I really want to be on anyway.

Any feedback you are willing to give, please do so. I really want to know what you, the community, thinks. If you have other suggestions, I want to know those too, please!

Ske, I know that this in gonna be some shit advice but honestly, do what you feel like is the best for you, not for us. We are your viewers and we are loyal. We respect whatever decision you make. As for playing one game every night to develop that fanbase, personally I would chose Rocket League purely on the fact that I love that game. But then again, I wouldn't mind watching you play Battlefield at all. You are good at the game and you like the game. Either of those are the best for me and probably most people. But with what you are trying to do with your channel, I'd go with playing Battlefield and develop that fanbase. Btw sorry I haven't been at the streams lately, had some shit to do, but I'm good now, see you tonight! And I hope my advice helps in any way

As I see it you might have to "become more of a one trick pony" - But how early and how late are these two streams gonna be? You already know that I prefer variety when it comes to streams - hence me bitching about Overwatch - So the Battlefield only streams won't really make the cut for me. As for streaming to only one platform, I support you on the decision of streaming only to Twitch as YouTube is a dead platoform.

I get what you're trying to do, you want to grow your channel while also keeping your current viewers entertained. I hate to be the one to say this - But you can't make everyone happy, believe me. I don't much care for the loss of quality, nor the games you play, just do what you wish. I've been here a long time, since May of 2015, your channel may not have grown much, but you as a persoon did.

Whatever decision you take - I'll support you, like always mate.

I am not sold one way or the other on which stream to do as battlefield and which one to do as other games. I am open to suggestions on this.

If I do an early Battlefield stream - then I am welcoming the EU people, and if I do it late then I am welcome the NA people.

I appreciate the support from both of you - no matter which route I take. :)

Hey Ske,

So I think you're on the right track with the idea of dropping Youtube and dedicating the stream to Twitch. Its unfortunate for the Youtube watchers but i think with the lower quality they should have no problem switching platforms if they want to watch.

As for the "one trick pony" thing, I have to agree with Medium for the most part. It will get old eventually however it seems like the best way to build a larger community. Consistent stream times  (given that Comcast will actually give you the internet you pay for) while playing the same game will be hard for people to miss and will bring in new and lasting viewers. I like the idea of having an early stream and a late stream because i like the fact that you're a variety streamer. That is always fun for me. I enjoy seeing reactions to different games and even being involved in some of the games and whatnot. My only concern with that double stream thing is that it might get taxing for you over time. You could always start the stream with your main game and dedicate the majority of the stream to that game, and then switch over at the end to something different each night. But i guess that is essentially the same thing just without the break.

I already know the answer to this but would streaming at different times be possible? You work, we work, we are all used to seeing you at the same time so i know this is not the smartest thing but it seems like it can bring in new people also. If it's not possible due to work and whatnot then so be it. Just trying to think of new things.

You've been doing this for over 200 days. Clearly the passion and dedication is there. You're a talented and entertaining dude. You engage with us and have a friendly and loyal community. The foundation is there and it is solid. Just make some minor changes to bring in new faces and you will be on your way up.

------TL;DR------
On board with dropping the Youtube platform as far as streaming goes. Feel as if a dedicated stream game will bring in new and lasting faces. LOVE the variety and definitely dont want to lose that if possible. Love you long time.

Stream to twitch only,  that way you don't have a split audience.  You'll have everyone on one site,  thus having more viewers to get noticed on twitch.

Play a game new viewers can get invested In.  Something with a story and isn't repetitive like online battle field. After a while whatching someone play the same maps over and over gets boring,  then people get won't watch any more.  Instead play something like dark souls or something you can level your character and do new stuff or quests every time you play.

Or play a game that is popular at the moment,  that way more people watch.

Just my two cents.  Good luck!  :D

My input is do the one Twitch channel and the 720p is not bad at all since the 1080p lags out and drops you for the ones that cannot get the high end of the streams. Hopefully with more watchers, the option (later on) to choose which speed will bring even more watchers.

On the game to play have the BF for 2hrs (especially since BF 1 comes out later, and this is only my opinion) and then the change to any other game of choice till you get tired as a freedom to come watch you.

We are loyal and will watch you either way. Good luck and see you soon...  :P

I am still getting asked a ton about my recent changes to my channel, so here is a list of the changes I made, as well as why:
  • Streaming to Twitch Only - no more YouTube streams: This is mainly because I need to get the community all in one place. I had two choices, and while yes, I have been streaming to YouTube longer - I went with Twitch because I like Twitch better, the community around Twitch is better, and I see myself being able to succeed more on Twitch than I ever could on YouTube.
  • Quality drop from 1080p60 5500 to 720p60 3000: This happened because I currently do not have quality options available for my streams on Twitch. By dropping the quality - it allows the stream to be watched by pretty much everyone - while before unless you had a pretty good internet connection - the Twitch stream wasn't watchable. This is to offset the loss of quality options from the YouTube stream - once I have the quality options available on my Twitch streams - I will bump the quality back up.
  • Daily Battlefield 4 - followed by other games: This decision was made because I have a lot of people from the Battlefield Twitch community that likes to come and hang out, and because I really want to focus on BF1 for my streams - so this is in prep for that release.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message down below, or send me a DM on Twitter.

Update time:

It has been almost 2 months now with the new schedule of streaming BF4 every single night, and then switching to something later. Here are some things I have noticed:

Quality changes: This has been the best change made so far. Everyone(almost) is able to watch, and no one has mentioned not being able to watch because of the bitrate since this change. So all SeemsGood.
Daily BF4 to start: This on the other hand has been a mixed bag. We have gotten a lot of new people from this - but the regulars I did have, seem to have gotten bored of seeing the same game, over and over again, and most of the new people haven't become regulars.

So, let's start this convo again. What do you all think of the changes, please, be honest with me. I want to do whatever is going to make you all happy, whatever I can do to entertain you all the best way possible. :)

Do you guys have any other suggestions of what I can do to help the channel grow? I have been streaming for a while, and obviously what I have been doing isn't what the community on Twitch wants, because I see people with much less time streaming, and much less often, growing at a much faster rate than I ever have.

I really am open to any suggestions you all have, and if you have criticisms, I want those too.

Love you all, thanks a bunch for being a part of this little community we have. <3
